I recently did a training for the Facilitators associated with Freedom From Grief. I started by talking about the “key” to success. Wouldn’t it be nice to have money for all the times you’ve heard “this is the KEY to success”. As if there is only one key, one way. I do, however; believe that this is a crucial component to real success in business, family, relationship or otherwise.
I have to start by defining “success”. It’s a word that gets thrown around a great deal and I think it is very important to have a working definition of what it actually means in the context of what I am writing about. I’m talking about balanced success. I’m talking about having good relationships with healthy people. I’m talking about not living for work, rather working as a part of passionate life. It’s the opposite of what we generally see in the culture around us.
My husband and I watch a lot of documentaries and lately we have viewed many of the “30 for 30’s” on Netflix as part of the ESPN series. They are all sports related. Lot’s of stories about intensely talented people. People that our culture would define as successful or on their way to success. Yet, what I saw in so many of the documentaries is that these athletes would get injured, or spend all their money, or do drugs and end up with very little. It’s as though their talent and potential encapsulated their entire worth. Without it, they didn’t have anything. That’s not the kind of success I’m talking about.
So it occurred to me that one of the key components to a successful business or life for that matter is to start living for Heaven. I’ve heard sermons about heaven that were wonderful. Yet, the focus is in our “spiritual” walk. What about the rest of our lives? Can you imagine for just a moment if you approached your family or business with the intent of living for heaven. With the deep knowledge in your heart that you are going to a place to spend eternity with God. That there is much more beyond the earthly walls that we are surrounded with daily. That our lives carry on beyond the material world. What if you lived that way? What would happen?
Well, I believe that if we lived that way we would be risk takers. We wouldn’t be afraid of the outcome because the outcome has no bearing on our worth. It’s just an opportunity to create another outcome. It takes the pressure off. It gives life here meaning, yet in a different way. We wouldn’t try to perform or “get it all in” for this lifetime. We would actually live in the moment. We would be more giving. And fear would not drive us.
I have decided that this is the way I want to live. I want to live and be in business… for heaven. I want to take risks and enjoy moments. Interestingly, when I started praying about it my husband (without knowing what I was praying about) got a book on audio called “Proof of Heaven”. I’ve started listening to it and it is phenomenal. The writers experience is one that can change your life if you let it. What are ways that you can live for heaven? Practical ways? I would love to hear from you.
